Drive from Arusha to Momela Gate.
Begin the trek with a fully armed ranger escort, spotting wildlife along the way.
Dinner and overnight at Miriakamba Hut.
Elevation: 1,387 m to 1,500 m (4,921 ft to 3,000 ft)
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Trek from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru, with a steep climb and spectacular views.
After lunch at Saddle Hut, make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb sunset views.
Dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.
Elevation: 2,514 m to 3,570 m (8,250 ft to 11,712 ft)
Distance: 8 km
Hiking Time: 3-5 hours
Habitat: Forest and Moorland

Start early (around 1:30 a.m.) for a steep climb to Rhino Point (3,800 m) and Cobra Point (4,350 m).
Reach the summit (4,566 m) for sunrise and potentially see Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds.
Descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest and brunch before continuing down to Momella Gate.

Hike through dwindling heathland that transitions into a moonscape as you enter the saddle connecting Mawenzi and Kibo.
Stop for lunch and prepare for the summit climb up Kibo.
Note: There is no running water at Kibo Huts.
